Working With Jerry:

First: Contact me by phone, at   918-355-3033, or just use the info-form.  Let me know what you want to have done and make an appointment for me to visit your location to discuss your project with you and give you a written bid.

The Bid:  Your job will be broken down into 2 parts; Materials and Labor.

Materials:   With my guidance and advice my customers buy all of the needed materials and have them delivered to the work site.  I do not provide any materials as do other contractors.  I do provide all of the tools and other equipment that I will need to complete your project.  This format saves you the minimum of 10% usually added to the cost of materials when bought by most contractors. (I will recommend you to the best places in the area to buy the materials you will need. You can buy them anywhere, of course, but you can benefit from my experience here.)

Labor:  The labor part of the bid will be your actual cost for my labor.  It is not an hourly rate, it is my labor rate based on your entire job.  Your labor cost will not increase unless you decide to have additional work included as part of the project.

Who Cleans The Mess? I hate the mess that contractors always leave behind for their customers to clean up.  This annoys me even more because they don't tell you that you will have a mess on your hands when the work is done. I always cleans up the mess.  Really.  No kidding, no hype.

Hey, neighbor, thanks for dropping by!

That's me over there, Jerry Cartwright.  I'm American born and have been a brick masonry contractor and bricklayer for more than 35 years, for all of my adult life.  I was born and raised in Tulsa and can't imagine any other place that I would rather live and work.  You can read my resume here.

I mostly specialize in:

  •  Large and small restorations
  •  Troubleshooting fireplace problems and making proper and lasting repairs and rebuilding them when necessary
  •  Walls, curved walls, patios, walkways, etc. Anything where fine brick work is required.

Did you know that a fireplace, like a person, must be able to breath properly?  It's true, a fireplace must have "draw" so that smoke goes up the chimney and not into your home.

My customers gave me the idea of using the web site title of "The Tulsa Brick Layer" because that is what they often ask for when they phone me, they say "Hello, can I talk with the Tulsa brick layer?"  Hey, I could be called worse things, right?

I learned my trade the old fashioned way by working (for free) as an apprentice to a couple of the best masonry contractor brick layers in all of Oklahoma.

I do things same as my mentors did because their methods make as much sense today as they did many years ago.  Attention to the smallest details, constantly taking and checking measurements, checking levels, angles again and again, using string lines to insure each brick is laid where it belongs.  These things, and more, are the old fashioned way.  Sure, it takes longer to complete a job, but the results are as different as day is different from night.  Quality counts for me as it did for them.   There is no substitute for genuine excellence in bricklaying.

I don't mean to sound arrogant, but I will not compromise the excellence of my work by cutting corners.  Attention to detail, beauty and accuracy are most important to me and my work.  I will not sacrifice any of these...not even for extra money.  I must always be able to respect the guy I see in the mirror.  If you will accept sloppy and careless brick masonry you'll need to find and hire someone else cause that's not me.

You may find that my rates to be higher than many of the other brick layers in the Tulsa area.  Not all professionals are equal.  People search for good dentists, doctors, lawyers, etc. because they are not all equally good at their work.  This is also true for brick masons. There is more about this here.

Have any questions?  They may already be answered in my FAQ file (Frequently Asked Questions).  Click here to read them.  Customers that are judging only by price may find that others will work for half as much as I do.  Other customers, shopping for quality, attention to detail and outstanding results will find my prices very fair and reasonable.

See the brick wall behind me in the picture?  It is not my brick work.  The picture was taken at a recent job site and the house, and brick work, were done by a builder in Broken Arrow.  They were obviously cutting corners to reduce their labor costs.  It would violate my ethics to work that way.

If you really care about the end results of your brick work project, you should consider having me look at your job and tell you how I would do it.

Oh, don't forget to ask for my references.  I can't look at them without blushing.  I've always had trouble with accepting compliments; I suppose it is a "guy thing."
