Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
And Their Answers

John Wright
Master Bricklayer

Projects accepted only in the Tulsa, Oklahoma, area

Please plan ahead If you decide that you want me to do your project.   It is very rare for me to be available on a moment's notice.

Modesty aside, my skills are in high demand (praise God).

I insist on working and completing only one job at a time.  Call as early as you can to get an idea of when I may be able begin your project.

Q: How do you price your jobs?

A:  Every job has 2 separate aspects: Material and Labor.

MATERIAL:
Once we have worked together to produce clear, specific, detailed and written specifications of the new project, I then provide my customers with a detailed list of all the needed materials such as bricks, cement, mortar, sand, etc.   It is the customer that then buys the various materials and has them delivered to the job site immediately before the beginning of the actual work.

Please understand shopping and paying for all of the materials is entirely the responsibility of the customer.  I always provide very helpful suggestions regarding where the material can be bought most economically.  I will not make a commission for customer purchases of any materials.  If I prefer one source over another I will explain exactly why.  The customer, of course, is free to buy from any source as long as the materials meet the specifications required for the job.

LABOR:

35 years of experience enables me to judge, in advance, how much work is involved in order for me to complete a project.  The price is for the work, not for the hours or days of time it takes to completion.  I provide my customers with a written price for the entire job.  If the job takes hours or days longer I will not change the price.  Most of my jobs take longer than expected, mostly because I am particular regarding quality.  The labor cost for a job is fixed and definite.  Please understand that the cost of my labor is not negotiable.  I do not start by giving you a high price to allow room for negotiating the price lower.  The price quoted is always the final price.

Q: I can hire a brick layer for a lot less than you charge, why should I hire you and pay more money for the same job?

A: The short answer is that it will not be the same job.  Each profession, including Doctors, Dentists, Lawyers, truck drivers, home builders, jewelers, and, of course brick layers have practitioners with skill levels ranging from poor to excellent.  All of my past customers will tell you that my work is excellent, beautiful and substantially adds to the value of their property.

Cadillacs cost more than Kias or Fords, and a Mercedes or a Rolls Royce cost more than a Cadillac.  Products of genuine quality and beauty cost more.  My work is for people who appreciate, and can afford, the best brick work in Oklahoma.  Plain and simple, I am a Master Bricklayer.  When you hire me you can be certain that I will earn every penny.

Q: I've had bad experiences with contractors.  It's always annoying that they make a big mess and leave it for me to clean up when they are done.  Is this what I can expect from you too?

A: In a single word: "No!"  I warn you that it does get pretty messy while I am working, this just can't be helped, but you can count on me cleaning up after myself when the job is finished.  No two ways about this.

Oh, don't forget to ask for my references.  They are so good that they make me blush.
